ABOUT THE PRE-K & INTOWN PROGRAMS

Pre-K Program

The WYSA Pre-K program was first introduced in 2013 for players aged 4 years and older. Sessions take place at the Shawsheen field complex on Saturday mornings.

Players participate in 25 minutes of fun games and soccer-related activities, refresh with a 5-minute water break, then play 3v3 scrimmages to mini-goals for 15 minutes.

The Pre-K program is the first introduction to soccer for the majority of WYSA players, all players who register for the WYSA Pre-K program receive a WYSA jersey and those playing in a WYSA program for the very first time will also receive a soccer ball courtesy of WYSA.

All Pre-K sessions are led by professional soccer coaches from WYSA with assistance from parent volunteers. The focus of each session is to learn basic soccer skills, rules, and fundamental athletic movements by playing fun soccer games.

Intown Program

Wilmington Youth Soccer Association’s Intown Program provides children who live in Wilmington the opportunity to play organized recreational soccer with one another.

The program is instructional in nature and children are taught the basic individual and team skills needed to play the game of soccer, to learn the rules of the game, to compete, and to win and lose gracefully. Every child in the Intown program is given equal opportunity to play regardless of ability. Players in the Intown program practice once per week and play games on Saturdays.

All Intown sessions are overseen by professional coaching staff, with WYSA volunteer coaches utilizing training videos, session plans and on-field demonstrations provided by professional staff as the basis for their sessions. All WYSA volunteer coaches are required to be CORI cleared by the state of Massachusetts.

WYSA actively promotes coach development and education to improve the level of coaching in the program, by hosting courses, providing session plans and providing WYSA Coaching Clinics.

The WYSA Intown program caters to over 500 players each spring and fall.  The Intown program covers the critical ages of a player's development where they begin to grow a passion for the game. WYSA looks to provide an environment that helps players learn the game and be excited to come back for the next session!
