To help ensure the health and safety of young athletes, CDC developed the Heads Up: Concussion in Youth Sports initiative to offer information about concussions to coaches, parents, and athletes involved in youth sports. The Heads Up initiative provides important information on preventing, recognizing, and responding to a concussion.
CDC concussion information and the free online concussion training can be found HERE
NFHS Learning center also provides Concussion in Sports information and a free course which can be found HERE
Generally, it is WYSA's position that in the case of a Head Injury or Concussion a player will not be allowed to play soccer under any conditions with WYSA until such time as that player has been medically authorized in writing by his or her doctor or attending physician to resume play. We will reserve the right to ask for that documentation from that player's family. Further discussion on this matter can be found, for example, in the WYSA Travel Policy.
It is our strong recommendation that all coaches of all levels and ages of play take the free CDC Concussion Training Course (https://www.cdc.gov/headsup/youthsports/training/index.html) as it can only help to best serve our WYSA players. Once you complete the course please send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org. We hope all coaches can complete the training prior to the start of the season.
